Reigate & Banstead Borough Council – Love Local

The Welcome Back Fund was provided to councils across England a share from the European Regional Development Fund to support the safe return of shoppers to high streets and help build back better from the pandemic. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council wanted to use some of this fund to embark on a video showcase of their town centres, celebrating local businesses.

"Thank you so much for the videos, they are great and we’re looking forward to sharing them." Diane Dunkley, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council

This was a vast project with lots of moving parts. The council came to us with a desire to create a series of videos showcasing each of their four town centres – Banstead, Horley, Redhill and Reigate. We proposed two distinct videos for each area, one hero edit which followed an actor on their day in the town, and one social edit where the presenter delivers a snappy script direct to camera from multiple locations, incorporating a few of the local shop owners as cameos to add colour and authenticity.

We cast 4 actors with presenting experience to be the lead of each town video, and sourced supporting cast members for background roles. All of the independent businesses that formed filming locations were organised by Square Daisy in a mammoth pre-production stage, squaring off an average 20 locations per shoot, timed to the minute in the production schedule. On the day of each shoot we coordinated and directed the talent, the shop locations, and filmed the detailed shot list with a combination of static and handheld camera.

Back in the edit suite we compiled the edits for each town, adding on-screen messaging to celebrate local businesses to the hero edits and captions to the social edits.
