Shop Safe, Shop Local – Animated Explainer Video

Runnymede Council came to us looking for a way to communicate with local people about what to expect returning to the high street as the shops re-opened. We created an animated explainer promoting safe shopping and supporting local brands.

"Creating video content during a global pandemic can be really difficult - animated video is the perfect social distanced solution!"

Runnymede Borough Council – and their economic prosperity arm Business Runnymede – wanted to prepare for the reopening of the high street and non-essential retail as lockdown restrictions eased. They wanted to reassure locals that there were plenty of safety measures in place, and encourage people to support local and independent businesses.

Due to the nature of restrictions and lockdown they felt it would be more appropriate to create an animated video rather than filming in the town centre with actors. The characters are friendly and accessible, and the sets are bright, warm and create an upbeat video with a positive, reassuring tone. We used camera movements to add a dynamic feel to the 2D landscape, and incorporated bespoke details such as references to local landmarks so that people from the area would recognise their borough in the animation.
